A "large section" of a detached house has collapsed in Birmingham, firefighters have said.

Crews were called to Beaks Hill Road in Kings Norton at 16:08 BST after reports the building had collapsed.

West Midlands Fire Service said nobody had been hurt and surrounding properties had been evacuated.

They said the property had now been stabilised although the area remained cordoned off. The cause of the collapse is being investigated.

'Nobody trapped'

A spokesman said crews had left the scene at around 20:00 BST.

He said: "There's nothing more we can do. We have checked there is nobody trapped under the fallen masonry and the gas supply has been isolated.

"People in the neighbouring properties have been advised to find alternative accommodation tonight.

"We believe around a third of the house has collapsed."
