Woman killed as car ploughs into Birmingham bus shelter

A woman was killed when a car mounted the pavement and hit a bus shelter in Birmingham, critically injuring a second woman who was waiting there.

The dead woman is in her 20s but has not been named following the incident on Hagley Road West just before 20:00 BST on Saturday.

The bus shelter was destroyed and the male car driver, a 32-year-old Birmingham man, was taken to hospital.

He was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The families of the two women are being supported by specially trained police liaison officers, a force spokesman said.
