Homes evacuated after 'suspicious items' found in Erdington

Homes were evacuated and an army bomb disposal squad called in after "suspicious items" were found at a house in Erdington.

Police said the items were found in Bracken Road as they searched the property in connection with an unrelated matter at 07:30 BST.

A 330ft (100m) cordon was put in place but removed at 11:00 after an inspection by the disposal team.

West Midlands Ambulance Service also attended but there were no injuries.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "Police this morning evacuated a number of homes in the Erdington area after suspicious items were found at an address.

"The items were found at a property in Bracken Road as officers were carrying out a search of the address following a man's arrest earlier this morning in connection with an unrelated matter."
