Fire breaks out at Meriden recycling depot

Fire in Meriden The fire broke out in a pile of wood chippings

Scores of firefighters have spent the night tackling a blaze at a West Midlands wood recycling plant.

It started shortly after 21:00 BST on Friday at A&A Recycling Limited's depot on Cornets End Lane, Meriden.

West Midlands Fire Service said a pile of wood chippings, 150m wide and 15m high, was alight.

Crews initially had difficulty getting water to the fire as it was in an isolated location, but the service said it had now been brought under control.

The fire was reportedly seen from the A45, the M6 and the M42.

Cornets End Lane in Meriden remains closed between the A452 Kenilworth Road junction and the Berkswell Road junction.
