A38 Aston Expressway closed after police crash

A major arterial road was closed following a crash involving a police car and another vehicle.

West Midlands Police said officers were trying to detain a man who was running along the A38 Aston Expressway, which links the M6 with central Birmingham.

A Seat Ibiza collided with the police car. An officer and the Seat driver were taken to hospital.

Police said a man was detained and the road reopened at 08:00 BST after being closed for three hours.

The force said the Seat driver sustained minor injuries, while the officer had been discharged.
