'Drink-drive' crash in Dudley leaves officer in hospital

A police officer remains in hospital after suffering injuries when a man crashed into the side of a squad car.

The driver of the other car, who sustained minor injuries, is suspected to have been over the legal alcohol limit, West Midlands Police have said.

The crash happened at about 02:40 BST at the junction of Smithy Lane and Tansey Green Road in Dudley.

The two police officers who were in the car were taken to hospital, where one remains.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing, West Midlands Police have said.

A 44-year-old man from Dudley is being held in police custody on suspicion of drinking and driving.

Ch Insp Jack Hadley said: "Both officers were extremely lucky not to suffer more serious injuries.

"The end result could have been far worse."
