Wolverhampton man charged with murdering estranged wife

A man charged with stabbing his estranged wife to death at her Wolverhampton home has appeared in court.

Suhail Azam, 54, from Whitmore Reans in the city, is accused of attacking 35-year-old Kanwal Azam at an address in Ingelby Gardens on Saturday.

Police were called to the house at 15:20 GMT and found the victim in the living room with multiple stab injuries.

She later died in hospital.

Mr Azam was arrested near his home in Newhampton Road East at about 16:20 GMT and was later charged with murder.

He appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court earlier and was remanded in custody.

He is next due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 2 April.
