Geoffrey Carter murder accused denies flat fire death

A woman has denied murdering a man who died after a fire at a flat in Walsall on Christmas Day.

Susan Buckley, 57, pleaded not guilty at Wolverhampton Crown Court to the murder of Geoffrey Carter.

Ms Buckley, of South Street Gardens in Palfrey, Walsall, was remanded into custody and will appearing for trial at the same court in June.

Mr Carter, 58, was taken to hospital after emergency services were called to the fire in South Street Gardens.

He died in hospital after suffering severe smoke inhalation.

    Troy Hitchins, 20, who has cerebral palsy was at the King's Head in Harborne on Saturday night.

    He'd been carried up the stairs by his friends because the lift was broken but was told by staff he couldn't stay as he was deemed a fire hazard.
