Driver killed in M6 motorway crash near Walsall

A man has died in a crash involving a lorry and a car on the M6 motorway.

It happened just before 06:30 GMT near to junction 10, for Walsall, West Midlands Police said.

The man, who was driving the car, was confirmed dead at the scene. A 54-year-old lorry driver was badly shaken, but received only minor injuries.

The southbound carriageway between junctions nine and 10a was closed for five hours while specialist officers examined the road.

Police said they were now trying to identify the car driver's next of kin and were analysing CCTV footage.

Sgt Neil Higgins, leading the investigation, said officers were trying to piece together what happened and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
