Teenager charged with attempted murder over Handsworth Wood stabbing

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in Handsworth Wood, police have said.

The boy was remanded in custody and appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court today.

West Midlands Police said a 17-year-old was injured in an attack, which took place at around 15:45 GMT on Hamstead Hall Avenue on Thursday.

They described his injuries as "serious" but said he had now been released from hospital.

    Ofsted chief Sir Michael Wilshaw is to take personal charge of the watchdog's investigation into claims that a number of schools in Birmingham have been taken over by Muslim hardliners.

    Ofsted has carried out inspections in 18 schools in the city.

    Ofsted and the Department for Education (DfE) are expected to publish their findings in early May. The DfE has ordered its own review of the evidence in the so-called Trojan Horse conspiracy.
