Wolverhampton Central Youth Theatre has funding removed

17 January 2014 Last updated at 14:22 GMT

Wolverhampton Central Youth Theatre is facing closure after the city council announced plans to cut its funding.

The group represented the UK at the World Theatre Festival in Monaco last year and was the UK's only youth theatre to be awarded a Cultural Olympiad grant ahead of the London games three years ago.

Wolverhampton City Council said it has to make cuts of £123m over the next five years and can no longer afford to subsidise the group.

Jane Ward, the theatre's director, said its £13,000 council grant will be withdrawn in the next financial year.

Peter Knott, from the Arts Council, said many groups are now having to look at other ways to generate funds.
