Parents held over death of Wolverhampton baby

The parents of a nine-month-old girl have been arrested on suspicion of her murder.

The baby, who has not been named, died in hospital on 6 January shortly after being taken by ambulance from an address in Park Village in Wolverhampton, police said.

A 35-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man were arrested at Wolverhampton police station.

Tests are being carried out to determine the cause of death.

The baby died at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton, police said.

The pair have been bailed while investigations continue.

Wolverhampton City Council said the child was not known to social care services.

A spokesman said: "Alan Coe, chair of the multi-agency Wolverhampton Safeguarding Children Board, has confirmed that the board will meet in due course to consider the circumstances surrounding the death and whether it would be appropriate to instigate a serious case review."
