Elections held on 'Super Thursday'

3 January 2014 Last updated at 11:34 GMT

This year will be a busy year in politics, with elections for seven Midlands seats in the European Parliament, as well as polling in 19 local authorities in the West Midlands.

As Midlands Today political editor, Patrick Burns explains, it is expected to set the scene for next year's general election.

The European and local elections are being held on Thursday 22 May, to bolster turnouts and cut costs.

"Forget 'Super Tuesday' in those US Presidential Elections, we'll have 'Super Thursday'," he predicts.
