A service has been held in memory of a teenage girl who was stabbed to death on a bus in March.

Christina Edkins, 16, from Birmingham, was attacked on the number nine bus at Five Ways in Edgbaston.

In October Phillip Simelane was detained under the Mental Health Act after admitting her manslaughter.

The service took place on Thursday at Leasowes High School, where Christina was a Year 11 pupil.

'Very special'

Principal Neil Shaw said the service was attended by Christina's family and friends, as well as staff and pupils from the school.

He said it was held in a memorial garden the school had created with the help of local businesses.

A stone centrepiece with an inscription about Christina was placed in the garden on Wednesday.

Mr Shaw said: "We want to make a significant tribute to this young lady who was very special to us and who deserves to be remembered in this way."
