Man dies in Birmingham 'stolen car' crash

A man died when a suspected stolen car hit a wall in Birmingham.

An Audi A6 crashed near the junction of Clifton Road and Lime Grove in Balsall Heath shortly after 02:30 GMT.

A 24-year-old man in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other men, aged 21, 22 and 25, were freed from the car and arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

The 25-year-old was also detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

The men are being questioned by officers.

Insp Paul Bennett, from West Midlands Police, said the vehicle was believed to have been stolen from the Hodge Hill area of the city on Sunday night.

He said the investigation was at an early stage and asked anyone who saw anything suspicious around Brockhurst Road to come forward.

"This is a tragic incident where a young man has lost his life and a family has woken to the most horrific news this morning," Insp Bennett added.
