Mandela death: Birmingham remembers his visit

6 December 2013 Last updated at 10:39 GMT

A condolence book for Nelson Mandela is set up by Birmingham City Council as people in the city remember his visit.

During a visit to the city in 1993, before he was elected president, Mr Mandela invited people to join his extended family.

He toured projects and attracted a big crowd in Handsworth when he visited the leisure centre.

Jazz musician Soweto Kinch, who grew up in Handsworth, said Mr Mandela, who died on Thursday aged 95, became an inspiration to many.
