Online retailers say they have taken on extra staff at their Midlands depots to deal with what is expected to be the busiest shopping day of the year on Monday.

Amazon said it has employed extra staff at its base in Rugeley, in Staffordshire, after figures from industry analyst IMRG suggested online spending is likely to reach a five-year high this Christmas.

Peter Plisner spoke to Robert Parker, an Amazon worker, Sharon Thomas, the company's regional director and Andrew McClelland, the chief information officer at IMRG.
