A man has been jailed for more than eight years for raping a man in Birmingham.

Qadir Miakhil, of Alum Rock Road in Alum Rock, denied the offence, but was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court.

The 24-year-old was jailed for eight and a half years and ordered to sign the sex offenders' register for life.

In a statement his victim, 20, said he thought he "was going to die" and the experience led to the break down in his relationship with his girlfriend.

"He left me feeling like I was not human anymore," he said.

"I was so terrified. I think it will take a long time to get over what has happened to me. I just want to put it behind me and move on with my life."

Det Sgt Jacqueline Mircetic, of West Midlands Police, said male rape was often a "taboo subject".

She said a range of support was available to both women and men affected by rape.

"Men often find it difficult to come forward, but I hope that today's proceedings demonstrate how seriously the police and courts take sexual abuse - in all its forms," she said.
