Thousands watch Birmingham Christmas lights switch-on

10 November 2013 Last updated at 12:01 GMT

Thousands of people have turned out in Birmingham city centre to watch the switching-on of the city's Christmas lights.

The event started with a parade beginning in Victoria Square.

It was led by Father Christmas, who later turned on the lights.

Organised by Birmingham City Council, the parade featured characters from the nativity, including real camels.

It is one of a number of events taking place in the city in the run-up to Christmas.
