Birmingham's Asian community responds to donor call

10 November 2013 Last updated at 11:58 GMT

More than 340 people have responded to an appeal to register as bone marrow donors for a seriously ill boy from Tipton, West Midlands.

Two-year-old Gaurav Bains has a rare immune condition that doctors believe could become an aggressive form of leukaemia.

So far, efforts to find a match have failed.

An event held at Birmingham's Nishkam centre on Saturday targeted members of the city's Asian community.

Volunteers involved said 343 people had come along and registered as donors on the day.
