Future of Birmingham A38 tunnels assessed

7 November 2013 Last updated at 17:25 GMT

The future of the A38 tunnels in Birmingham is being examined as part of a 20-year action plan to improve the city's transport network.

A council report said the tunnels created a "noisy unattractive barrier to intra-centre movement".

It also said the network had coped better than anticipated when they were out of commission for six weeks in the summer.

The 20-year plan highlights the need for better public transport and the need to make walking and cycling more attractive.

BBC Midlands Today's transport correspondent Peter Plisner reports.
