Sixty pigeons die in Kidsgrove allotment fire

Sixty pigeons have died after arsonists set fire to an allotment shed, fire crews said.

The fire was started in an adjacent shed at 01:00 BST in King Street, Kidsgrove, and spread to the shed containing the birds.

Kidsgrove Mayor Kyle Robinson said: "There have been a lot of attacks on our allotments lately, but this one has made a lot of people very upset."

Allotments in Nantwich Road and Lamb Street have also been vandalised.

"Clearly people are getting in quite easily," Mr Robinson said.

"Security issues at the site need to be addressed urgently else this will keep happening again and again."

Staffordshire Police is appealing for information.
