Underground explosion in Birmingham closes road

A road in Birmingham city centre was closed after flames and smoke were seen coming from the ground.

A fuse box being used by workers on Corporation Street caught fire and exploded after an electrical fault, West Midlands Fire Service said.

Passers-by reported the sound of an explosion underground and West Midlands Police closed a section of the road at about 10:25 BST.

Police said nobody was hurt and the road reopened at 11:17 BST.
