Thousands of tyres in Wolverhampton fire

Fire scene Fire investigators are looking into what caused the blaze

About 40 firefighters have tackled a blaze involving around 5,000 tyres at a garage in the early hours.

The fire started at S.S. Autocare in Willenhall Road, Wolverhampton, before 03:00 BST and was brought under control by about 07:15 BST.

At its height, nine fire engines were sent to the scene of the blaze, which affected 80% of a building, including the roof, the fire service said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Three crews from the Wolverhampton area were sent to the scene, along with two from Walsall and one each from West Bromwich, Oldbury, Wednesbury and Bilston.

The fire service said it would probably be damping down for the rest of the day.
