Perry Barr's Strider Bike Balancing Championships

21 August 2013 Last updated at 20:55 BST

Around 100 children have taken part in a bike challenge using cycles with no brakes or pedals.

The Strider British Bike Balancing Championships, in Perry Barr, Birmingham, encourages children to have fun while improving their coordination skills.

One competitor, two-year-old George Evans from Redditch, won awards in three events.

Proud father Matt said: "It is a great idea, he loves his bike anyway, but this helps give him independence and confidence."

Melanie Tomas, Strider Co-ordinator, said: "The children have great fun, and taking the pedals away allows the children to focus on balancing."
