Birmingham Eid celebration shows 'unity' in community

Thousands of Muslims gathered at a public park in Birmingham to celebrate the end of Ramadan earlier.

Eid prayers were said at Small Heath Park after mosque leaders asked the city council if they could stage the event out in the open.

Those gathered included the nephew of Mohammed Saleem, who was stabbed to death following worship at Green Lane Mosque in April.

Sunny Araf said: "Uncle Saleem's loss was a great loss to the whole community.

"Having an outdoor event today with everybody coming together I suppose it's the community getting together and saying 'We've gone through that, we've suffered but we're going to show some unity'.

"It's absolutely fantastic that they are."
