An 18-year-old man accused of grabbing a schoolgirl has appeared in court charged with attempted kidnap.

The 11-year-old girl was grabbed while walking home alone from Holland Park, Walsall at around 19:45 BST on Saturday, West Midlands Police said.

The man, from the Brownhills area of the town, was arrested on Wednesday.

He was remanded in custody at Walsall Magistrates' Court and is due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on 19 October.

When the girl was grabbed she screamed and broke free before running home and alerting her parents who called the police, a spokesman said.

Officers specially trained in dealing with young victims of crimes are supporting the girl and her family.
