Mohammed Inayat in court over Tyseley fatal house fire
A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a house fire which killed a mother and severely injured her teenage daughter.
The woman died of the effects of breathing in smoke from the blaze in Cateswell Road, Tyseley, Birmingham.
Mohammed Inayat, 56, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Friday, where he also faced four counts of attempted murder.
Three other people were also injured in the fire in April.
Mr Inayat was remanded back into a secure mental health unit where he was being treated after being detained under the Mental Health Act.
A 16-year-old girl was critically ill in hospital having suffered severe burns following the fire.
Det Ch Insp Sarbjit Johal, of West Midlands Police, said: "Our investigation continues and we are still urging anyone with information to speak to us."
