Roads remain closed in a Birmingham village following a pub fire on Tuesday.

Harborne Park Road (A4040) is closed both ways between Vivian Road and the High Street.

Buses have also been diverted away from the High Street following the fire at The Huntsman Pub.

Crews from across the West Midlands were called to the blaze at midday on Tuesday which damaged the roof and first floor of the building.

Steve Husband, of West Midlands Fire Service, said about 60% of the building had been destroyed in the fire.

Twitter messages

He said it appeared that the "hot gear" being used by workmen on a nearby roof caused sparks that lit the timbers below.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

Staff at The Huntsman took to Twitter last night to let customers know they were safe.

Their message read: "We just want to let everyone know that thankfully, no one has been hurt in the fire. Thanks for your support."

The pub's Facebook page also saw an outpouring of support from locals.

It is not known when the pub will re-open.

The fire comes just weeks after the pub re-opened as a Lord of the Rings-themed venue following a £40,000 renovation.
