Tonnes of recycling material on fire in major blaze

A fire involving 50,000 tonnes of plastic recycling material and a factory unit in the West Midlands has been declared "a major incident".

The fire service said 150 firefighters attended the scene in Smethwick.

Birmingham International Airport was alerted after a plume of smoke was seen rising 6,000ft into the air.

Crews expect to be at the scene on Dartmouth Road for days.
