A man has been arrested getting off a flight at Birmingham Airport on suspicion of murdering a father of two who was shot dead at a pub.

Marlon O'Reilly, 33, died at The Dovecote in Sheldon, West Midlands, on 10 May. Detectives believe he was a victim of mistaken identity.

A man aged 33 was held, after flying from Thailand on Wednesday evening.

A 26-year-old woman, of Tile Cross, West Midlands, has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Mr O'Reilly, who was drinking with friends when he died, was studying graphic design and had two sons, aged 15 and nine.

He was killed the day before his 34th birthday.

'Fast moving inquiry'

Police believe he was shot because he was wearing a similar T-shirt to the intended target.

Detectives believe the shooting was connected to an earlier incident at the GA Gym in Garretts Green Lane where a man was slashed with a knife.

Det Insp Warren Hines said: "Officers have been working around the clock to compile evidence.

"They have carried out forensic searches and trawled through CCTV footage and this is still a very fast moving inquiry.

"The community have also proved critical to our progress and a large amount of information has been received from witnesses and other local people."

The 26-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday afternoon.
