Walsall dispersal order to tackle anti-social behaviour

Police in Walsall have been granted a dispersal order to help combat anti-social behaviour in parts of the town.

West Midlands Police said it secured the six-month order after receiving a number of complaints from residents in the Reedswood and Beechdale areas.

Locals were unhappy about incidents of fighting, street drinking, drugs issues and criminal damage.

The dispersal order takes effect from Friday. Officers will have extra powers to move groups on from a defined area.

Stephenson Square, Reedswood Way and Reedswood Retail Park are included in the dispersal zone.

Police can also return anyone aged 16 or under to their home between the hours of 21:00 and 06:00 until 1 January 2014.

PC Steve Kidd said: "Sadly the actions of a few individuals have a negative effect on the whole community and we hope that this order will enable us to make a real difference to those who are suffering due to anti-social behaviour.

"We will be working closely with Beechdale Community Housing which will mean that persistent offenders could face losing their home.

"We are grateful to local residents for raising our awareness of issues relating to anti-social behaviour and we urge anyone who is affected to speak to us."
