A45 sudden freezing causes 10-car crash in underpass

Sudden freezing is believed to caused 10 cars to crash in an underpass on one of the main routes in and out of Birmingham.

The A45 Coventry Road into Birmingham, near Swan Shopping Centre, Yardley, has been blocked by the crash which happened at about 17:00 GMT.

Up to 15 people may have been involved, West Midlands Police said.

Police said the crash may be due to "flash freezing creating hazardous drive conditions".

The A45 links the centre of the city with Birmingham Airport.

Two people were taken to hospital, ambulance crews said.
