A mayoral chain and medals which were "treasured family heirlooms" have been stolen in a Solihull burglary.

The items had belonged to Bob and Marian Usher who served as mayor and mayoress of North Tyneside in 1994-95.

Det Con Lucinda Wilson, said: "The medals are worth a few hundred pounds to the thief but their true sentimental value is far greater."

The couple's daughter appealed for the return of the items, taken from her Balsall Common home on 11 February.

Anyone with information relating to the burglary was asked to call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers.
