Birmingham campaign targets lads' mags
A Birmingham women's group has launched a campaign to stop children being exposed to so-called "lads' mags" in the city.
The Shelve It campaign has asked newsagents, supermarkets and petrol stations to place them at least five feet nine inches (1.75m) off the floor.
The proposal would see them appear in the vicinity of pornographic magazines.
Birmingham's Women's Networking Hub said the sexual content of lads' mags was inappropriate for children.
Sian McClure from the group said: "For children to go into newsagents and see these magazines next to say kids magazines - they shouldn't be put in that position as young children."
It comes as Birmingham City Council plans to introduce a limit of 12 sexual entertainment venues in the city.
The local authority said proposals were in the early stages, after new legislation allowed it to impose more strict conditions on premises and carry out regular inspections.
