Prince Charles visits injured troops at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

The Prince of Wales met staff during his visit to Birmingham

The Prince of Wales has met injured troops during his eighth official visit to a Birmingham hospital.

He visited the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine, which is the centre for armed service members injured overseas, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Prince Charles toured the mixed military ward and also spoke to medics.

He also met members of the British Forces Foundation charity, of which the prince is patron, which organises morale-boosting events for troops.

Wearing the tie of The Mercian Regiment, he sported lapel pin badges bearing the cap badges of the King's Dragoon Guards, The Parachute Regiment and The Mercians.

One of the hospital's matrons, Davina Thomas, said: "I was charmed by him, he's very nice.

"We've met on previous visits and he remembered me.

"He is always very interested in the patients and the staff, and what the individuals' stories are, and the way in which the whole system works."
