Murder inquiry over body in Dartmouth Park lake

Dartmouth Park The body was found at Dartmouth Park on Wednesday

Police are treating the death of a man whose body was found in a West Midlands lake as murder.

Staff at Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich, spotted someone in the water at about 09:00 GMT on Wednesday, police said.

Officers believe the man who died had lived locally and was aged in his 40s. He is yet to be formally identified.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out later, but injuries to the man "cause officers to believe the death may be suspicious".

Det Ch Insp Wayne Jones, who is leading the inquiry, said police want to hear from anyone who was in or around Dartmouth Park early on Wednesday morning "and may have seen anything".

He added: "Until we have the post-mortem examination we cannot say for certain how the man has met his death, but we need to ensure that all possible investigative opportunities have been taken as we piece together all of the facts."
