The family of a mother of five found with knife wounds at a Birmingham property say they are "shattered" by her death.

West Midlands Police were called to an address on Farndon Road, Alum Rock, on Monday where they found 33-year-old Shaista Khatoon.

In a statement, Ms Khatoon's family described her as "a loving and wonderful mother".

A man, aged 37, is in custody after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

Ms Khatoon's family said: "We are shattered by the events of the past 24 hours and struggling to come to terms with what has happened.

"We urge anyone who can help the police to call them."

Police said it is believed Ms Khatoon and her attacker were known to one another.

She was taken to hospital but could not be saved, police said.

Farndon Road remains sealed off for forensic examinations.
