Taxi driver badly hurt in Northfield fight

A man has been arrested after a taxi driver was left critically ill after being in a fight in Birmingham.

Emergency crews were called just before 03:30 GMT to reports of a fight at the junction of Bristol Road South and Hawkesley Mill Lane, in Northfield.

The 44-year-old taxi driver was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and remains in a critical condition.

West Midlands Police said a 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

Officers urged anyone with information to contact them.
