A runner taking part in a half marathon in Birmingham has died.

More than 18,000 people, a record number for the annual event, took part in the half marathon, which started at 10:10 BST.

Bupa Great Birmingham Run organisers Nova International said it regretted "the tragic loss of life".

A statement added it offered its "deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends" of the runner.

They said no further details would be released until next of kin is informed.
