Police said the baby girl was badly injured and remained in a critical condition in hospital
A woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a baby girl was found badly injured at the bottom of a rubbish chute in Wolverhampton.
West Midlands Police said officers were called to a flat in Boscobel Crescent on Saturday evening after reports a child was missing.
They said a "very young baby" was then found nearby in the "refuse collection area" with serious injuries.
She was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
Police said a 24-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a 32-year-old man was being questioned on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Both remain in police custody.
Det Insp John Smith said they were not looking for anyone else as part of their inquiries.
He urged anyone with information to contact police.
