All of the bus stops on one of the main streets in Birmingham city centre are no longer being used.

The buses which previously stopped on Corporation Street will now stop at six interchanges elsewhere.

Marshals have been posted in the city centre to advise passengers where they need to catch their bus.

The bus stops have been closed to make way for work on the planned Midland Metro tram extension linking Snow Hill station to New Street station.

'Clear directions'

The six interchanges replacing the Corporation Street stops are at Snow Hill/Colmore Row, Paradise Circus/Broad Street, Smallbrook Queensway/St Martin's Queensway, the markets, Moor Street/Carrs Lane and Bull Street/Priory Queensway.

Centro said more than 50,000 maps of the new stop numbers and locations had been handed out and 16 public exhibitions were being held in July.

Posters have gone up at stops in the city centre and on buses.

Centro said the new network would transform Corporation Street "into a more attractive shopping environment".

The tram extension, which along with the project to transform New Street station is due to be completed in 2015, will feature a stop in Corporation Street.
