A 15-year-old boy has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm following an assault in Birmingham in which a 22-year-old man was critically injured.

The victim suffered a serious head injury in the attack in Small Heath at the junction of Somerville Road and St Oswald's Road on Friday afternoon.

The boy, from the area, was taken in for questioning on Sunday.

Two men who had also been arrested in connection with the incident have been released on bail until next month.

Det Insp Stuart Kidd, from West Midlands Police, said: "There is no change in the condition of the young man who suffered serious injuries during the attack.

"He is still very poorly in hospital."
