Victim critical after attack outside Small Heath mosque

A 22-year-old man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being attacked outside a Birmingham mosque.

West Midlands Police said they were called to the junction of Somerville Road and St Oswalds Road in Small Heath at about 14:30 BST.

Police said the man had suffered serious head injuries and was in hospital in a critical condition.

Officers cordoned off the area and worshippers for Friday Prayers were diverted from the scene.

Police were talking to witnesses and said they were treating the incident as a case of serious disorder.

Police also said the mosque authorities were co-operating with officers.
