A man believed to have been murdered in Birmingham was a former soldier, police have said.
Brian Farmer, 64, was found dead at his flat in Coventry Road, Yardley, by officers on 19 May.
A 39-year-old man, a 39-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old were arrested on suspicion of murder and have been bailed.
A post-mortem examination has proved inconclusive and police said they are awaiting the results of further tests.
Mr Farmer, a father-of-two who spent 22 years in the Army, lived alone at his flat, police said.
He served with the Queen's Own Royal Irish Hussars in Northern Ireland and The Gulf, before retiring as a Mess Sergeant in 1993.
Det Insp Warren Hines, from West Midlands Police, said: "We believe his body may have been in the flat for some days before it was discovered and we are appealing for anyone who may have seen him in the days leading up to this.
"We believe Brian was well-known in the local community and was both distinctive and personable.
"We are trying to piece together Brian's movements and lifestyle and who he associated with.
"If anyone saw anything suspicious or heard anything they should contact us as soon as possible."
