London 2012: Search for Olympic volunteers in Birmingham

The process has officially begun to find Olympic volunteers in Birmingham.

Birmingham City Council is recruiting 300 people to help support the US track and field pre-Olympic training camp.

Those interested in becoming a volunteer have until 11 May to apply. The roles could include stewarding, information assistants and kit carriers.

The training camp will be at the Alexander Stadium in Perry Barr.

Sharon Lea, strategic director, environment and culture at Birmingham City Council said: "This is a fantastic, once in a lifetime opportunity to work with some of the world's top athletes as they prepare for the Olympic Games.

"There's huge worldwide focus on the Olympic training camps and a large number of people across the city have already expressed an interest in volunteer roles."

Organisers are recruiting for two teams, which include the Sportsfest Super Stars - working on 18 and 19 July - and the Stadium Super Stripes - working 16-26 July inclusive with a minimum of seven days commitment.
