Next generation gadgets on show

Help

A self-balancing, motorised unicycle was among the star attractions at the 2012 Gadget Show Live at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre (NEC).

The Solowheel, which costs almost £2,000, can travel at speeds of up to 12mph, is unique, according to its manufacturers Inventist.

A series of gyroscopes is designed to keep the single-wheel vehicle upright.

To control it, the rider stands on footplates and leans in the direction they want to travel.

Among the other themes on show at the annual technology event were new uses for mobile phones and innovative bus stop adverts.

Gadget Show Live runs at The NEC in Birmingham until 15 April.
