Man struck by West Midlands Police vehicle in Newtown

A man is in hospital with serious head and back injuries after being struck by a police vehicle in Birmingham.

The accident happened just after 19:00 BST on Newtown Road, near Newtown Shopping Centre, West Midlands Police said.

Details of the type of vehicle involved are not yet available.

A spokesman for the force urged any witnesses to the accident to contact them.
