Passenger films 'ransomed' Comtel flight to Birmingham
About 180 passengers said they were asked to pay £130 each to continue to Birmingham, after a flight from Amritsar was held up in Vienna.
The flight, with Austrian airline Comtel Air, was due to stop in Vienna to refuel.
Spanish carrier Mint Lineas Aereas said it had been grounded due to financial issues.
Comtel majority shareholder Bhupinder Kandra said money paid to travel agents had not been passed on to the airline.
Other passengers have been stuck in India after flights were cancelled.
