Man rescued from Wednesfield derelict factory fire

A 29-year-old man has been rescued after a fire at a derelict factory in the Black Country.

Firefighters were called to an industrial estate off the Wolverhampton Road in Wednesfield at about 2000 BST on Tuesday.

Crews are still at the scene. Police said part of Wolverhampton Road was closed in both directions for several hours on Wednesday morning.

The building is structurally unsound, the fire service said.

"The reason why the road is still closed is because the building is structurally unsound and they are going to get a structural engineer down now in daylight hours to make an assessment of the building," a spokesman said.

The factory is situated between Graiseley Lane and Well Lane.

The man was taken to hospital as a precaution, the fire service said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
